My riding mower is a Sears Craftsman Thumper with a Kohler single 12 horse. No backfire at shutdown :-) Seriously, from the many posts on this subject, you get a wide variety of experiences and no real consensus. The muffler you run, your riding style, altitude and the bike's country of origin all play a role (among other factors, I'm sure). It's easy to make the spacer/mixture mod, and easy to reverse it. So, my advice is to experiment and have some fun with it.
